Eco Jet Ski Tours: Respecting Our Oceans

The Whitsundays is our backyard, and we want to keep it pristine for generations to come. Just because we go fast does not mean we do not respect and care for our amazing backyard. Here is how we run eco-friendly jet ski tours that put the ocean first.

Yamaha jet skis for lower emissions

We run Yamaha jet skis across our entire fleet. Yamaha's modern four-stroke engines are among the cleanest and most fuel-efficient in their class, producing significantly lower emissions than older two-stroke personal watercraft. That means less fuel burned, fewer emissions and a smaller footprint on the waters we love — without sacrificing the thrill of the ride.

Keeping our distance from marine life

The Whitsundays is home to turtles, manta rays, dolphins and, in season, humpback whales. We are guests in their home, so we follow strict recommended distances to avoid disturbing them:

  • Turtles and dugongs: Keep at least 50 metres away. If a turtle surfaces near you, hold your position and let it pass — never chase or corner one.
  • Dolphins: Maintain at least 300 metres from dolphins when riding a jet ski. Do not pursue or encircle dolphins; let them approach you on their own terms.
  • Whales (in season): Maintain at least 300 metres from whales when riding a jet ski. Slow down and keep a steady course if whales are sighted nearby.
  • Manta rays: Maintain at least 50 metres and never ride directly over the top of them.

Our guides brief every rider on these distances before we leave the marina, and they enforce them on the water. If marine life is spotted, the guide decides whether to hold position, slow down or move away — the animals always come first.

No chasing, no harassing, no feeding

We never chase, pursue or harass marine life. We never feed wild animals — it alters their natural behaviour and can make them dependent on or aggressive toward boats and jet skis. If a turtle, dolphin or whale appears near the group, we hold our position and enjoy the moment from a respectful distance. These are wild animals going about their lives, and a sighting is a privilege, not a guarantee.

Guided tours, not free-for-alls

Every tour is guided from start to finish. This is not just about safety — it is about environmental responsibility. With a guide leading the way, we control where the group rides, how close we get to sensitive areas and how we behave around wildlife. A guided tour means the impact on the environment is managed, not left to chance.

Protecting seagrass and reef

The waters around Airlie Beach include seagrass beds and reef systems that support turtles, dugongs and fish populations. We stick to deeper, open-water routes and avoid riding over shallow seagrass or reef. Our guides know the local waters and choose routes that minimise contact with sensitive habitats.

Leave only spray, take only memories

We operate a strict leave-no-trace policy. Nothing goes in the water — no rubbish, no food scraps, nothing. If we see litter floating, we pick it up and bring it back to shore. The only thing we leave behind is spray that disappears in seconds.

Fast fun, deep respect

We go fast where it is safe to go fast, and we slow down and respect the ocean where it matters. That balance is at the heart of everything we do.
