First Jet Ski Tour in Airlie Beach: What to Expect
By Airlie Jetski Tours Team
Published 23/10/2026

Your first jet ski tour should feel exciting, not mysterious. The Hour of Power is a one-hour guided jet ski safari for beginners and experienced riders, with the practical safety essentials explained before the fun begins.
How does a guided jet ski tour work?
Start at Rufus & Co Cafe, Shop 16/33 Port Drive, Airlie Beach QLD 4802 — the marina spot known for the best coffee in Airlie Beach, delicious food and sweeping waterfront views. Arrive 30 minutes before departure so there is time to grab a coffee, check in and attend the safety briefing. Your guide explains how to operate the Yamaha jet ski, what to do on the water and how to follow the day’s instructions before the ride begins.
The experience is guided from start to finish. The route can change with weather and water conditions, so the guide decides where the group can safely ride on the day. We do not promise a particular route, speed, calm seas or wildlife sightings. You can keep watch for local marine life, but sightings are not guaranteed.
Do I need experience or a licence?
No previous jet ski experience is required, and no jet ski licence is required for this guided experience. Drivers must be at least 16 years old. Every driver must be able to understand and follow the safety briefing in English. If you have questions about this requirement or whether it applies to your group, contact the team at jetski@spiritofwhitsundayscruises.com.au before booking.
A passenger must be at least 8 years old and ride with an adult driver aged 18 or over. The maximum combined weight for two riders on one jet ski is 200 kg. If you are unsure whether your group meets the age or weight requirements, ask before booking.
One rider or two?
You can ride alone or share one jet ski with another eligible rider. The price is charged per jet ski, not per person, so choose the number of jet skis your group needs. For current pricing, check availability at booking.
If a driver and passenger want to change places, ask the guide first. A swap may only happen during a designated stop when the guide decides that the conditions and safety requirements allow it.
What should I bring?
Wear swimwear or clothes you do not mind getting wet. Bring sunscreen, a towel and sunglasses, and consider bringing a waterproof camera if you have one. Life jackets and safety equipment are provided. Secure anything loose before you ride and listen carefully when your guide explains the equipment.
What if the weather changes?
Safety comes first. Weather can affect the route and whether a tour can operate. High winds, storms or rough seas may lead to a cancellation. Where possible, we provide notice and offer a full refund or free rescheduling. If you are already at check-in and conditions are changing, ask your guide what the current plan is rather than assuming the route will stay the same.
What should I ask if I am unsure?
Ask before leaving the shore if you are unsure about starting, sharing a jet ski, the weight limit, the safety instructions or what to do if conditions change. During the tour, ask your guide before changing riders or moving away from the group. Clear questions help your guide make the safest decision for everyone.
